Support for LGBTQIA+ Students

CAPS will prioritize the identification of job candidates with demonstrated successes in support of LGBTQIA+ clients in hiring processes to better reflect the needs of the student body.

The inaugural student CAPS Liaisons were announced in the first CAPS newsletter, published in December 2021.

This practice has long been in place. Starting fall 2021, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff will partner with the HaverHealth student committee to hire two student CAPS liaisons to facilitate student body learning responsibilities including learning about CAPS philosophy and policies, and broadly promote campus mental well being. More work is needed to identify and map out the appropriate manner in which to involve student CAPS liaisons in hiring processes for clinicians, given the particular nature and complexities of the profession.
