Developments & Updates
In addition to external partnerships and recruitment efforts, Haverford now has a scholarship that directly relates to indigenous students: The Indigenous Communities Scholarship Fund, which was established in 2021 and proposed by members of the Class of 1971 during their 50th reunion year. This scholarship is designed for members of federally or state-recognized Indian tribes and/or students with demonstrated commitment to or track record working with federally or state-recognized Indian tribes, who are academically qualified and have demonstrated financial need.
We have re-established our partnership with College Horizons, an organization supporting Native American students across the US in their pursuit of higher education. Through this partnership, we can directly engage with students as well as a network of college counselors who specifically support Native students. In the summer of 2021, Haverford participated in the pre-college summer program for high school sophomores and juniors, leading admission workshops and mentoring students. Admission has also formalized the responsibility of directing Native American recruitment; this work will be led by Michael Deleon, Assistant Director of Admission and Access and Diversity Initiatives.
